NORTHWESTERN PRECISION MANUFACTURING, VERNON HILLS, IL 2008 – 2010

Ultra-high precision mold manufacturer

Chief Executive Officer — Led entire management team in development of a strategic plan focused on surviving, rebuilding, and growing supported by a three-year functional operations plan.

Organizational Restructuring: Conducted swift evaluation; eliminated non-performing business and focused on core competencies. Cut overhead 25% by rationalizing entire senior management team. In three months, eliminated $2 million net annual cash burn to zero.

Manufacturing: Focused manufacturing and engineering teams on quality, delivery, and service. Streamlined department and company communications. Developed and implemented departmental goals and objectives.

Division Rebuilding: Clearly communicated corporate goals and objectives; implemented two clear general philosophies: add value or go home and every day strive to get better. Provided real-time feedback on objectives and goals and published intermediary accomplishments.

Finance & Accounting: Eliminated CFO position, evaluated and upgraded accounting and job-costing systems, outsourced payroll, improved customer tracking and lead analysis system, and cut accounting department costs 50%. Provided weekly reports to financial institution and investment group.

Sales: Restructured and focused sales team, implemented sales incentives, streamlined quoting process, and regained customer confidence through relationship building and improved performance.

TZ/PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TECHNOLOGIES/MAJESTIC MOLD CORPORATION, IL 1990 – 2007

TZ is an Australian-based company ASX-TZL-Intelligent Fasteners

TZ Chief Administrative Officer (2005 – 2007) Retained by TZ on a two-year contract to stay on as member of executive integration team after its unsolicited bid to buy PDT; TZ was a former supplier of PDT’s. As chief negotiator of deal, received 4X EBITDA and exceeded target EBITDA after one-year earn-out period.

Human Resources: Built formal corporate HR department; recruited, hired, and managed HR director.

Finance: Served as acting CFO of PDT business unit. Implemented department and branch office metrics; provided management reports and dashboards; scheduled reports to TZ group’s CFO.

 • Technology: Managed IT group covering eight remote locations in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Successfully maintained 99.5% uptime for entire organization. Improved consistency by implementing SalesForce.com as enterprise CRM and as IT service depot and knowledge center. Oversaw overhaul of internal database reporting system.

Operations: Opened remote sites in Boston, Detroit, Austin, and Los Angeles and relocated TZ corporate headquarters to new Chicago location. Ensured uniformity and consistency by coordinating objectives and reporting of each branch and department and providing them with systems and procedures.

Due Diligence/Acquisition: Completed six-month due diligence on Textron Fastening System for potential TZ acquisition as well as analysis and negotiation of PDT-targeted acquisitions.

 

PDT Managing Partner (1998 2005) — Recruited back as partner as part of leveraged buyout when PDT merged with Majestic Mold Corporation. Was one of four principals. Held full accountability for corporate strategy, finance, IT, branch office operations, and mold building.

Integration Management: Planned and orchestrated merger between Majestic and Product Development Technologies. Moved both facilities to one location, assimilated best practices, and implemented cultural compromises.

Design Leadership: Played a key role in developing SMART-Tooling™, advanced automated design techniques, and trained dozens of engineers in its use based on a proprietary system wrapped around Pro-Engineer solid-modeling design software.

Sales: Boosted PDT Tooling sales 116% within two years, increased PDT Design Group combined sales 133% in two years, rebounded after 9/11 post-dot.com bust, and established and marketed EDGE Tooling™.

Tooling: Increased revenue dollars 50% per employee by implementing advanced mold-building manufacturing techniques and processes; introduced and executed world-class mold-building lead times, forefathers of the four-week production tool. Earned ISO 9001 certification.

Manufacturing: Established PDT Manufacturing in 2001 and integrated manufacturing systems into corporate PDT.

Design Model Shop: Built model shop and pre-production assembly department and penetrated medical and military markets. Established ISO 13485.

Supply Chain: Built network of tooling sources in Eastern Europe, South America, and Asia. Developed and centralized vendor approval guidelines and processes; negotiated vendor terms and conditions.

Corporate IT: Ensured IT team stayed ahead of technology curve and provided advanced solutions and support to branch offices in three remote U.S. locations and two international locations. Managed international Pro-Engineer licenses for 20-hour per day utilization; located, negotiated, and acquired PDT.COM domain name.

Corporate Finance: Served in CFO capacity, managing banking and finance relationships as well as financial processes and reporting.

Real Estate: Negotiated lease terms and conditions. Purchased property, acquired and managed townhouse and condominium for international employees and trainees, and managed selection and purchase of PDT Manufacturing site.

Majestic Mold Managing Partner (1990 1998) — Purchased company with two partners in 1990. Led business development, engineering, all financial functions, systems, and general management. Oversaw selection and purchase of real estate for future growth.

 • Strategic Planning: Developed and implemented four-year strategy that resulted in year-over-year increase of 18% for eight years, increasing revenue from $1.2 million to $4.5 million. Combined existing and advanced technologies into business, implemented formal management procedures across all disciplines, identified and corrected tooling vulnerabilities, and orchestrated merger/leveraged buyout with Product Development Technologies.

Design: Successfully introduced advanced mold-design techniques enterprise-wide; designed hundreds of molds and integrated design with manufacturing and quality control. Clearly defined customer expectations by establishing procedures and requirements and trained customers in 3-D solid-modeling techniques.

Sales: Created and implemented marketing and sales initiatives that generated 50% of overall business; organically grew existing customers and increased service level by establishing customer feedback loop.

Manufacturing: Decreased average lead times 50% through advanced mold-making techniques, improved on-time delivery 100% through improved scheduling, and reduced rework 40% through a quality control process. Increased revenue per employee more than 100% and increased capital utilization by adding an effective night shift.

Supply Chain: Reduced costs by centralizing purchasing; oversaw vendor selection and approval process.

Information Technology: Spearheaded IT systems and growth strategy. Implemented central file server, DNC system, and remote communication techniques with customers; set up company’s Internet domain and e-mail.
